Johnson-Jeffries Fight Footage and Lecture by Phil Earl at the Nevada Historical Society

Reno, Nevada. The Nevada Historical Society invites visitors to get as close as they can to ringside seats as historian Phil Earl presents a lecture on Jack Johnson’s career as a black fighter in the early 20th Century. The presentation is followed by a documentary on Jack Johnson which includes historical footage of the Johnson-Jeffries fight that took place in Reno, Nev. July 4, 1910.
This program is being held June 26 at 1:00 pm in the Historical Society’s Reno History Gallery. It is the second in a series of lectures commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the historic Jonson-Jeffries fight.

“Of Past and Present” Exhibit at Lost City Museum in July |

OVERTON, Nev. - The Lost City Museum presents the exhibit “Of Past and Present” by artist Janet Trobough throughout the month of July. Trobough will show her work, from July 1 through July 31, 2010.
Displaying a variety of media, this show will feature artwork depicting expressionistic western scenes and Native American themes in rustic earth tones. Water colors figure heavily in the show, as well as beautifully decorated gourds.

Ralph Burns to Receive Nevada Heritage Award |

Carson City, Nev. Ralph Burns, of the Pyramid Lake Museum and Cultural Center will be presented with the 2011 Nevada Heritage Award at the Stewart Father’s Day Powwow on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. The powwow takes place at the Stewart Indian School located at 5366 Snyder Avenue in Caron City.
Nevada Arts Council Board Chair Tim Jones will present the award, joined by former Arts Council Folklife Program Coordinator Jeanne Harrah Johnson, who wrote the nomination and Rebecca Snetselaar, Folklife Program Associate.
